GLOSSARY LETTER
Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) is an index created by Charles Dow (nineteenth century Wall Street Journal editor and co-founder of Dow Jones & Company) consisting of 30 of the largest and most widely held public companies in the United States. Initially, Dow compiled the index as a way to assess the performance of the industrial component of America's Stock markets. However, today, many of the 30 companies do not belong to the heavy industry anymore.
