Definition for : Bitcoin
Bitcoin is an electronic currency designed by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2009 and created outside the area of any form of government control, which, however, only has some of the attributes of standard currencies: although bitcoin is a unit of currency and an instrument of payment for those who accept it, it is not legal tender as it is not possible to force anyone outside the community to be paid in bitcoin.
Bitcoin is promoted, standardised and protected by the Bitcoin Foundation (https://bitcoinfoundation.org).
